Marion’s newest piece of city equipment is a powered street sweeper. When this machine was bought, an older model was traded in. That machine in turn, had replaced the familiar “man with the broom,” who manicured the streets as a full-time job.

A real, old-fashioned blizzard blew down out of the Arctic North on Tuesday of this week, giving Marion County a dose of the most disagreeable winter weather of the season.

James Meisner, Marion County engineer, has been elected president of the County Division of American Road Builders Association. The election of Mr. Meisner and other new officers was announced Tuesday at the association’s convention in Washington, D.C.

Six teams from Chase County and east Marion County will participate in a Town Team basketball tournament in March. Marion team members are Tom Shirley, Boyce Baumgardner, Keith Conyers, Don Druse, Bob Boese, Larry Bowyer, Ron Kelsey and Tim William.

All five people, whose names were called, were not present at Wednesday’s Cash Day drawing. D.M. Seneker of Marion missed the top prize of $150. Lesser amounts were missed by Mrs. Ralph Richmond, Mrs. Chas. Druse, A.M. Anderson, and Lillie Schlotthauer.

George Kristek announces this week that he has purchased the Havlik Grocery and locker plant in Tampa from Frank Havlik.
