An early morning fire of undetermined origin almost completely wiped out the main building of the West Side Motel and Grocery Store on West Santa Fe Street. The total loss to the building and contents will probably run to $9,000 or more, say the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Newton.

Two delegates, George Jackson and Norman Bowers, and alternate, Wally Slusser, have been named for the American Legion-sponsored Boys’ State to be held later in the year at Lawrence.

Four Marion Junior High students were among the 10 winners at the fourth annual Marion County Science Fair held in the Tabor College auditorium/gymnasium. The winners were Jimmy Mayginnes, Susan Hansen, Randy Schmidt, and Mike Steinel.

Dennis Ray Hamm was guest of honor at a party Saturday afternoon honoring his seventh birthday. Guests present included Larry Baxter, Mike Classen, Gene Ewert, Ricky Fishback, Laurence Ford, Kevin Fruechting, Dannie Gooding, Dart Henry, Ricky Just, Jimmie Koslowsky, Greg Regier, Terry Smith, and Dennis’ sister, Shirley.

The Prep Youth Bowling Association held its season-end awards banquet in the Elgin Hotel dining room Tuesday evening. Receiving awards as the winning team in the league, the Rolling Stones, were Billy Newlin, Mark Rathert, Jeannie Widler, and Kenny Lundgren.
