An attempt is being made by the city to try and save the beautiful and magnificent elm trees in Central Park from the dreaded Dutch Elm disease that is spreading westward across Kansas. The city clerk has ordered the new Bidrin capsules that are supposed to prevent the disease.

Due to the impending move of Mrs. Wm. Caselman, Marion city librarian, to Grand Junction, Colorado, the library board announces the appointment of Mrs. Leroy Riggs to succeed her. The change will be made May 15.

Coach Vernon Moore’s inexperienced basketball team made a good account for themselves this season, getting off to a slow start, but winning the district tournament. Only three men, Gene Schimpf, George Jackson, and Darold Longhofer had previous experience at the beginning of the year.

Mrs. Mary Bernhardt of Marion was the only winner in this week’s Cash Day drawing. She received $10. Those not present when their names were drawn include Elmer Druse, Ellwood Schlesener, Donna Rogers, and Gertie Huntley.

A group of young men have organized a club, “Rogues, Inc.” to raise money to sponsor teenage dances this summer. Officers of the club are Steve Stayton, president, Larry McKibbin, vice president and secretary, and Jerry Meirowsky, treasurer.
