A better-than-ever turnout of voters went to the polls Tuesday, with more than 600 votes tallied. Winners in the City Commission races were Lynn Christensen, mayor, and Robert Brooks, finance commissioner. The six winning school board candidates were Bill Meyer, Ronald Widler, Roy Hett, Dorothy Magee, Ralph Popp, and Larry Jost.

Final details of a major Marion business transaction have been completed this week. Gound Motor Company, Ford and Mercury dealership in Marion, owned by S.W. Gound, has been sold to J.B. Noll of Florence and Gerry Harris of Wichita.

The annual Marion County Spelling Bee was held Thursday in Marion. First place winner was Sharon Loewen of Hillsboro. Nancy Smith of Lincolnville was second place winner, and Bryce Ollenberger of Marion won third place.

Leading roles in “Jack and the Beanstalk”, this year’s elementary school operetta, will be played by George Coe, Denise Wiens, Mike Bredemeier, Shelley Batt, Brad Case, and Doug Kelsey. Dennis Kraus will be the “Showtime Announcer.”

Births announced in this issue include Blaise Klenda, son of Dr. and Mrs. Martin Klenda, Wichita; Brice Darren Foth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lee Foth of Peabody; Tamara Lucille Olsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill E. Olsen of Lincolnville; and Marie Michelle Druse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Druse of Marion.
