Marion’s newly elected Mayor Lynn Christensen and Finance Commissioner Robert R. Brooks were sworn into their new city offices late Monday afternoon. They are shown signing their bonds of office as Utilities Commissioner Kenneth Rigler, City Clerk Lucille Britain and Utilities Superintendent Junior Bredemeier look on.

Making its first public appearance at the Union Good Friday services Friday will be the Bell Choir of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Choir members are Shelley Batt, Shirley Helmer, Diana Franklin, Gary Wiens, Janice Jantz, Terry Plenert, Bryce Ollenberger, Anita Hett, Brenda Helmer, and Pamela Slusser.

Sharon Loewen, Hillsboro 8th grader, is the county’s champion speller for 1965 and will represent the county at the state contest in May. In second place was Nancy Smith of Lincolnville with Bryce Ollenberger of Marion taking third.

A Cub Scout kite-flying contest was held Saturday at Marion Airport. Prizes awarded for three highest-flying kites went to Mike Colgin, 1st; Jeff Longhofer, 2nd; and John Higgins, 3rd.

Marion High School’s golf team took first in the 4-man event Saturday at the Kingman invitational. Team members, pictured with Coach Chuck Norris, are Jim Magee, Mike Wood, George Jackson, and Neil Colle.
