It’s harvest time and farmers in Marion County have been busy in the fields for the past week.

The unique “Miniature Caravan” that is traveling the length of the Old Santa Fe Trail, will be greeted here July 13 by a “Kid’s Day” celebration. The caravan features some 40 children and their sponsors in early-day costumes, riding ponies and in miniature covered wagons with all the paraphernalia of the fable wagon train.

Jack Applegate, who has been superintendent of schools at Marquette, has been hired as superintendent of Marion’s school system for the coming year. He will assume his duties July 1.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Carmichael, Lindsborg, announce the engagement of their daughter, Suzanne, to Jon W. Thole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Thole of Marion. A December wedding is planned.

This week’s “Look Who’s Here” column reports the birth of a daughter, Jamie Lynn, to Mr. and Mrs. Garry Vogel on June 22 and a son, who is yet unnamed, born to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Laloulette on June 24.
