Cement is being poured today, Thursday, on the widening of another block of Marion’s Main Street. The new curbing has been installed, the light poles moved, and the old excess sidewalk torn out on the north side of the block between Third and Fourth streets.

The newly renovated store building and all new front of the former DeForest building on the northwest corner of First and Main is pictured on the front page. The building will house the new Sears Catalog Store in the west part. The east room will continue to house Chet’s Place.

Roger “Bud” Hannaford’s Buick station wagon went for a swim in the Marion County Lake Wednesday evening. Hannaford was on a Presbyterian Sunday school picnic and was busy hiding items for a children’s treasure hunt when the accident took place. He stated he hadn’t intended to hide his station wagon.

Among the articles listed for sale in the Sears opening ad is a 2-speed, 3-cycle Washer for $169, a matching soft-heat dryer $122.95, and a 2-speed, 8-cycle washer for $184.95. All are in a choice of three colors: white, turquoise or coppertone.

Clifton Meisinger, Wilbur Hett and David Klein Jr. were in Washington this week in regard to Rep. Garner E. Shriver’s bill that would grant relief to tenants under the W.M. Scully Estate Land System who are affected by acquisitions for the Marion Dam and Reservoir.
