The Old Settlers’ Day committee has announced that a number of bands are expected for the big parade Saturday morning. High school bands entered include Lehigh, Florence, Peabody, Hillsboro, Durham, Centre, and Marion. Also to appear are junior high and grade school bands from Peabody, Hillsboro, Marion, and the famous Rube Band.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Klenda received a telegram Friday which officially notified them that their son, Lt. Dean Klenda, is “missing in action” as of September 17. Lt. Klenda has been flying F-105 “Thunderjet” fighter-bombers in the war zone of Viet Nam since going overseas in June.

Mrs. Martin Rindt of north of Lincolnville was in the Record office Wednesday with a monster carrot from her garden. The carrot weighed a full pound and three quarters. She also had a beet the size of a large cantaloupe, but said they’re not much good when they get that big.

Mrs. T.C. Ensey was hostess to members of the Stitch and Chatter Club at a “come as you are” breakfast on Thursday.

Gloria Lewerenz of Lincolnville, a sophomore in home economics, and John L. Russell of Marion, a senior in geology, are among Kansas State University upperclassmen who will serve as freshman orientation leaders at Kansas State September 23-25.
