A total of 38 performers and their accompanists took part Saturday night in the Amateur Talent Show sponsored by the Marion Jaycees. Winner in the high school category was “Susan and the Bachelors,” a musical group made up of Susan Hansen, Bryce Ollenberger, Mike Steinel and Ed Cook. Grade school winner was Janel Klose, piano solo.

Glenn Dody, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dody, has retired from the Air Force after 20 years of military service that includes both the Marine Corps and the Air Force. Major Dody plans to work with the Colorado Springs Athletic Association.

Stars and Stripes, armed forces newspaper, recently ran a story of what the men of M Co., 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, based in the field near Chu Lai, did during a three-day period. Capt. Richard H. Schwartz of Marion is commander of the unit.

James Druse celebrated his 11th birthday Wednesday by taking treats to school, followed by a party after school at his parents’ home. Those attending the party were Roger Hannaford Jr., Brad Kimball, Leonard Schafers, Glen Bartel, Billy Finke, Mike Edmunds, and Ricky Schwendiman.

Marion Junior High home athletic events will see Les Powell as announcer, Lynn Christensen as timekeeper, Harlow Warneke with the down box, and Reuben Zerger and Garry Vogel on the chains.
