Two Marion High School students have qualified for the Kansas competitive scholarship contest as finalists. They are Norman Bowers and Judy Pankratz.

Members of Marion Kiwanis Club heard several young men report on scouting at the Monday noon meeting at Kingfisher’s Inn. Don Bredemeier told about Webelo activities, John Higgins, Darrell Enos, and Robert Cook each made talks about Cubbing, and Mike Bredemeier gave a report on the Scout merit badge in outdoor cooking.

Patricia Warneke, talented daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harlow Warneke, is pictured on the front page following her crowning as Queen of Court Friday night.

Nineteen members of Coterie Club drove to Whitewater Monday for a luncheon at Carolyn’s Party Place. Arrangements for the luncheon were made by Mrs. Wharton Hoch, Mrs. Gail Merrill, and Mrs. Dean Batt.

Signalman 3/c Earl Winter has been serving aboard the “mixed manned” destroyer USS Claude V. Rickets. The ship is a guided missile destroyer, and just returned from an 18-month exercise in the Mediterranean. It has a complement of men made of sailors from the United States, England, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Turkey, and Greece.
