The first annual “Loyalty Day” parade, planned for on or near May 1 each year, was held in Marion Saturday afternoon. Underlying idea of the observance is to combat the Communist May Day celebrations held over the world.

The city commission in regular session Monday afternoon agreed to grant a 50-year lease on the football field portion of the Athletic Park to the Marion city schools. This step is in preparation to the proposed plan of the school to construct permanent stadium facilities on the field.

Ann Bass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bass of Marion, recently returned from a two-week visit to Japan.

Fourteen girls from Marion High School volunteer as “Sunshine Girls” at St. Luke Hospital. Their most important service is to bring smiles into the patients’ rooms. The girls, two each evening, serve between 5 and 6 p.m. Participants include Cathy Costello, Jan VanBuren, Becky Coe, Maurita Deines, Debra Glover, Rita Hein, Shelly Hett, Jan Herrick, Joyce Maltbie, Linda Oldham, Nancy Olsen, Connie Thompson, Roxy Zerger, and Joyce Ford.

LaVonda Hett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hett of Marion, was chosen “Miss KFDI” in a special contest recently and represented the Wichita radio station during their promotion of the much-publicized “Greater Downtown Wichita” day on Monday of this week.
