Marion County again showed a healthy gain in population over last year, with the cities of Hillsboro, Peabody, Marion, Goessel and Florence accounting for most of the gain.

A massive storm-line built up across central Kansas Wednesday afternoon spawning several destructive tornados. Hardest hit areas were Topeka and Manhattan. A lengthy story gives information concerning former Marion residents now living in those areas.

Mary Konarik, water safety instructor and coordinator of the Red Cross swimming instruction program at Marion Municipal announces the following list of helpers: Roma Roebke, water safety instructor; Judy Pankratz, Linda Bauman, Helen Jackson, Patty Plenert, Susan Yeagley. and Jackie Thomas, instructor aides; Linda Oldham, Kaye Applegate, and Kerry Domke, helpers.

Cadette Girl Scout Troop 61 of Marion entertained their mothers at a tea Tuesday afternoon at the Legion Hall. During the program, scouts received the highest award in Cadette Scouting—“The Challenge Pin of the Girl Scout Promise” and the First Class patch. Troop members are Janice Jantz, Jan Herrick, Beverly Hoch, Nancy Olsen, Kathy Winter, Susan Vogel, Marla Bingaman, Kathy Weber, Cathy Costello, Susan Hansen, Tammy Case, Marsha Cowan, and Susan Marler.
