SSgt. Don A. Maltbie, son of the Lawrence Maltbies of Marion, and the entire crew of an AC47 “Dragonship,” have been recommended for the Distinguished Flying Cross for action during an attack against the Viet Cong.

This season’s cheerleaders at Marion High School were chosen this week with the final selection made by the student body. “A” team cheerleaders will be Susan Yeagley, Roxanne Zerger, Susan Lentz, Shelly Hett, and Kathy Perkins. “B” team cheerleaders will be Kay Applegate, Nancy Olsen, Beverly Elling, and Tammy Case.

Bob Good, David Goertz, and Dennis Conyers left Tuesday to enroll at Emporia State Teachers College. The three boys will live at the men’s residence hall.

Dennis Robertson won the Marion Country Club championship golf tournament over the Labor Day weekend. Boyce Baumgardner took first in the second flight, Keith Conyers in the third flight, and Al Bernhardt in the fourth. Best drives were recorded by Art Lewerenz and Rosse Case. The longest putts were made by Ray Vinduska and Jack Webb. Best tee shots were by Robertson and Ed Good.

Diana Goertz of Marion was the winner of a Necchi sewing machine at the Marion County Fair this year. Diana is the home economics teacher at Peabody High School.
