After several months of hard work by local citizens, the dreams of many will be fulfilled when a modern new 50-bed skilled nursing home is constructed in Marion this fall. Construction is expected to start within two weeks.

The annual Community Guild banquet Tuesday evening was attended by 265 women who enjoyed seeing latest styles shown by models wearing outfits from Compton’s and Vans in a setting of an elegant French tea room. Pauline Ferrell was narrator of the event with music furnished by Norma Riggs.

Girl Scout Susan Marler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Marler of Marion, received the first “God and Community Award” ever presented in Marion County during the morning worship service at Marion Christian Church Sunday, Sept. 18.

Weddings reported in this issue included those of Virginia Tajchman and Roman Albert Jr. on Sept. 10 at St. Mark Catholic Church and of Rita Urbanek and Doyle Taylor on Sept. 3 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen.

The program at a joint meeting of American Legion and its Auxiliary Sept. 8 featured talks by Girl Staters Helen Jackson and Carol Bowers, Boy Staters Pat Costello and Ron Kreutziger, and Susan Lentz, who had been sponsored by the Legion as a candidate for Marion County Fair queen.
