It is reported in this week’s issue that five persons lost their lives in automobile accidents the past week. Three residents of southeast Kansas died Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash north of Durham. An 18-year-old recent bride was killed Friday in a car-truck collision south of Canada. An 18-year-old youth from Lincolnville died early Saturday morning in a transport crash north of Clay Center. And yet another tragedy claimed the life of a 19-year-old Wichita boy who drowned while swimming in the pool at Marion Country Club.

Coach Ed Frickey announces this week that the annual “”Soap Game: will be played Sept. 11 and the opening game of the season will be Sept. 18 at Moundridge.

Sandra Higgins, whose marriage to Gail Dody will take place Sept. 6, was honored with a miscellaneous bridal shower Friday evening at the Youngtown church.

Carolyn Merrill arrived home Thursday from Estes Park where she spent the summer. She returned to Denver Wednesday and will teach this school year in the Cherry Hills elementary schools.
