Indian Summer weather continues with temperatures in the 60s and 70s but the need of moisture gets a bit more urgent each day. Wheat growth is spotty. Some fields are fine, others aren’t. Once more, the lack of moisture is becoming a big problem for the farmers.

Max Guy Jackson Jr. was one of six University of Kansas students who recently received scholarships for the 1966-67 school years from the Henry Gaddis Foundation. Max is a junior majoring in chemistry.

Several people were winners at the recent Veterans Day carnival held by the American Legion. Top prizes went to Harold Bowers, who won a half of beef; Woody Steinert, Tampa, Teflon skillet; Alfred Swann, 17-jewel wrist watch; and Clarence Duerksen, Hillsboro, electric razor. Several others were awarded door prizes.

Two Marion youths were slightly injured Sunday when the 1957 Pontiac, driven by Darrell Spencer, 16, of Marion went out of control when he attempted to stop and skidded into a concrete bridge banister. Lance Alexander, 14, received a cut on his chin and Jerry Fender, 17, had a tooth knocked out.

Neva Applegate of Ramona reports seeing two deer in the northeast corner of Dennis Tajchman’s pasture Tuesday morning. Mrs. Applegate says she has been on that route for 18 years and it’s only the third time she has seen deer and that she is sorry she didn’t have a camera to catch the moment.
