The first snowfall of this season provided welcome moisture, long-needed on wheat and other fields. Total snowfall varied considerably over the county. In Marion, weather observer Rendel Newsom measured four inches of snow each on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Last Thursday night’s drawing of prizes for boys and girls was crowded in spite of the sudden severe weather and the late hour. The four winners were Terry Weigart, Gloria Cox, Diana Anderson, and Randall Conyers.

Sophomores at Marion High School were winners in a contest between classes to fill to overflowing more than a dozen large boxes and baskets with food and other gifts for needy families. Pictured Student Council members representing the classes are Patricia Wood, freshman class; Susan Hansen, sophomore; Dennis Knoblock, junior; and David Longhofer, senior.

Brad Heerey celebrated his 8th birthday Dec. 21 when his classmates came after school to help him honor the occasion. Those who enjoyed birthday cake, decorated as a football field, ice cream, and Kool-aid were Eddie Vinduska, Marc Smith, Craig Smith, Rodney Richmond, Allan Richmond, Mike Ehrlich, Chris Jost, John Goentzel, and Brad’s brother Doug and sister Cindy.
