Extra heavy holiday travel, coupled with constantly changing weather, caused injury to motorists and damage to their cars over the New Year’s weekend in Marion. The heavy snowfall of last week alternately thawed, froze again, and on Monday sifted across roads and into drifts, driven by a brisk northwest wind.

Frank Holub won the first prize, his choice of an Underwood portable typewriter or an Olivetti adding machine in the Marion County Record Christmas subscription offer. Second prize, a Tensor study lamp, was won by Martin Jantz. Four third prizes, Rand-McNally atlases, were won by Mrs. Don Berg, Otto Bentz, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ronsick, and Mildred Knoblock.

Mr. and Mrs. William Rex Berry of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Rebecca Elizabeth, to John R. Summerville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Summerville of Wichita. No wedding date has been set.

A1/c and Mrs. Ora J. Hett, Abilene, Texas, announce the birth of a daughter, Jacqueline Sue, January 5. The couple’s first child, she weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces.

Genial Gerry Harris and Bouncing Boyce Baumgartner were the hottest shots for Marion with 21 each when the Marion Mashers defeated Leckington Sand of Newton Tuesday, 81-69.
