Thirteen volunteer “Candy Stripers” at St. Luke Hospital recently were honored for many hours of helpful services at the hospital. Formally organized in May of 1966, the group includes Jan VanBuren, Kathy Winter, Beverly Hoch, Jan Herrick, Nancy Olsen, Cathy Coe, Connie Thompson, Vickie Klassen, Tammy Case, Janice Jantz, Marsha Cowan, Becky Coe, and Linda Oldham. Nancy Olsen received special recognition for donating 108 hours of service.

Kevin Jirak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jirak, was honored with a birthday party at his home June 3. The following youngsters helped him celebrate his fourth birthday: Gary Ehrlich, Bruce Winkler, Nathan Smith, Bradley Herbel, Jeff Jirak, Lisa Richmond, Darryl Herbel, and Timmy and Rodney Jirak.

Among those receiving Bachelor of Science degrees in Education from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, are Arlyn L. Kinsey, Ruth Arlene Lais, and Helen Louise Olsen of Marion.

Bobby Douglas, slated to be Kansas’ No. 1 quarterback this fall, will visit the Kiwanis Club at its June 12 meeting at the Owl Car Café to preview Jayhawk football prospects for the 1967 season

Lawrence Webster, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marium Webster of Marion, was named “Soldier of the Month” for May at the 14th Army Security Agency Field Station in Japan.
