Marion City Commission met in special session Tuesday and proceeded to act on the purchase of a new engine and generator for the Marion Municipal Power Plant. The bid of the Worthington Company at a price of $302, 820 was accepted.

Wingerd’s I.G.A. store in Marion will change hands on Monday and will be known as Dean’s I.G.A. after that date. Kenneth Wingerd has owned the store in Marion for 20 years. He purchased the Al Richardson store in June 1947 and has operated it ever since. The store formerly was on Main Street in the building now occupied by the east side of the new Jackson Clothing Store. In 1952, Mr. Wingerd constructed the modern new store building on East Main.

Debbi Case, Susie Wood, Joanie Elling, and Brad Case are attending a church camp this week at Westminster Wood, near Fredonia.

Wedding write-ups in this issue are those of Norma Jean Frick and Nelson M. Patton, who were married June 2, and Eileen Pavey and James Sieger, who exchanged vows on June 16. Both weddings were held in the Marion Evangelical Brethren Church.

The public is invited to watch a spirited softball game between the “older ladies” and “the girls” at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Marion County Park and Lake Diamond. Admission is free. All interested fans are invited to attend.
