The death of Wharton Hoch on Saturday, July 22, in Wesley Hospital and Medical Center in Wichita took from Marion one of her most illustrious and loyal sons. It took from the ranks of sincerely Christian men one of their finest members. It took from his family and acquaintances a deeply loved father, husband, grandfather, and friend.

A memorial fountain, situated in Marion’s beautiful City Park, has been proposed as a suitable permanent tribute not only to the life of Wharton Hoch, deceased Marion County Record publisher, but also to all citizens who have devoted their lives to the Marion community.

Kathy Perkins, Shelly Hett, Susan Yeagley, Nancy Olsen and Kaye Applegate are attending a cheerleader’s clinic at Ottawa University this week.

Helen Olsen has accepted a position teaching business in high school at Dodge City. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl F. Olsen, Marion, and a 1963 graduate of Marion High School.

Congressman Garner E. Shriver has informed the Marion County Record that a $778,000 appropriation for the Marion Reservoir was favorably reported by the House Appropriations Committee. This will complete the $13,600,000 project that was started in June 1964.

Kevin Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Wilson, was honored with a birthday party July 20 in celebration of his sixth birthday. Guests were Barry Allen, Shannon McKinney, Casey Case, Ronnie Woerz, David Bryant, Jimmy Dreier, Dennis Kelsey and Kevin’s sister, Lisa.
