Postmaster Ray Vinduska this week announced that within the next few days the Marion post office will send out cards to help patrons get needed zip code number information.

Bob Hoover, Marion golfer, accomplished the object of the game last week when he “aced out” on number three at Marion Country Club.

Peter Goentzel, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Goentzel of rural Marion, was killed instantly Saturday evening when the late model Chevrolet he was driving was struck by a southbound fast freight at the Rock Island crossing on West Main Street in Marion.

Bryan Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor, was the honored guest at a backyard cookout Saturday noon in observance of his fifth birthday. Friends who came to help him celebrate were Brad and Doug Heerey, Ronald and Rocky Kristek, and Ronnie and Gerry Ehrlich. Also present was Bryan’s older brother, Bruce Taylor.

Cecilie Swain, 9-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Swain of Emporia, recently won a pony in a contest there. The pony came complete with saddle, halter, and blanket. Cecilie is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Meier and Mr. and Mrs. B.C. Swain, all of Marion.

Coach Gene Davis has a good bunch of junior high boys reporting for football practice with 49 on the roster.
