This Saturday will be the 56th anniversary of Old Settlers’ Day, with the first such event being October 16, 1912. Prior to that time, there were “Ohio Reunions” and other picnics held in the summertime. Gerry Harris is this year’s general chairman and Bill Finke is the parade chairman. Featured speaker at the afternoon program will be Edwin M. Wheeler, one of Marion’s brightest products.

This week a complete set of survival supplies was placed in Marion Municipal Building by C.P. Ashcraft, Marion County civil defense director. The supplies consist of biscuits or “hard tack” in sealed a 20-pound cans, enough to feed 110 people for three weeks, sanitation kits, medical supplies, and a complete set of radiological monitoring instruments.

Girl Scout Cadette Troop 62 was organized Sept. 29 at a “Coke” party at the home of leader Mrs. W.K. Holmes. Troop members are Jo Marie Mueller, Lisa Holmes, Becky Wood, Karen Pankratz, Cathy Newlin, Kathy McCoy, Dottie Lentz, Teresa Case, Debbie Link, and Jeannie Widler.

Members of Company M, 137 Infantry, 35th Division, A.E.F. held a reunion in St. Joseph, Missouri, the weekend of Sept. 23. They were commemorating the 50th anniversary of the company. Veterans attending from Marion were Martin Druse, Ollie Wight, Charles Niederhauser, and John H. Riddle.
