The increasingly popular annual spring event in Marion, the Cottonwood Valley Poultry Barbecue and Jamboree, will be held next Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the City Building.

Final selection of MHS “Queen of the Court” will be announced at half-time of the Hillsboro-Marion game Friday night when last year’s queen, Donna Kelsey, will open the envelope and announce the selection. Candidates are Ann Bass, Sue Summervill, Lucinda Hauser, Julia Wooldridge, and Lei Launie Lorts.

When plans were made to have a Marion County Tour Day at the Wichita Stockyards, it was thought about 30 people would attend. Instead, over 100 people signed up and the affair was broadened into two days, Jan. 12 and 13.

One of the more interesting items in school news this week is the newspaper being published by the fourth grade of the hill school. Pat Costello is editor of the paper and Stevie Childs is co-editor. Jimmie Magee wrote a feature story on “Skiing in Colorado” and Mary Jane Williams has a bylined story on membership in the school band.

Margie Winter was guest of honor at a chili supper in honor of her birthday Thursday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Winter. Guests were Lucinda Hauser, Karen Thole, Sue Summervill, Joyce Remmers, Jean Dody, Beverly Pankratz, Lou Wheeler, Lei Lorts, Ann Bass, Deanna Hyson, Naomi Stenzel, Kathy May, Virginia Heerey and Bradley, and Mr. and Mrs. Chet McKibbin.
