Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, whose building near the Chase County line on Highway 150 is a familiar landmark, held its last regular service last Sunday. This marked the end of an era, which saw the congregation form when a considerable number of Lutherans of German descent settled nearby in the community known as Prairie Grove. The building is being made available for purchase.
Barbara Musgrave, Marion County’s 1959 spelling champion, will go to Topeka this Saturday to represent the county in the state spelling bee.
A comedy, “Nuts in May” by Cornelia Otis Skinner, is to be given Friday by the Junior Class of MHS. In the cast are Cinda Hauser, Jim Williams, Dennis Navrat, Lou Wheeler, Beverly Pankratz, Ann Bass, Deanna Hyson, Naomi Stenzel, Sue Summervill, Warren Vogel, Ethel Brunner, Lei Lorts, Jean Dody, Delton Richmond, Bud Kelsey, Dennis Robertson, and Gary Ford.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bernhardt of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Margie Ann, to Richard Hawes Schwartz, Lieutenant U.S.M.C., son of Mrs. Joseph Schwartz, New Cumberland, Penn. The wedding will be in early August at the Marion Evangelical United Brethren Church.
