The new Fairbanks Morse dual fuel engine and generator at the Marion power plant is undergoing its final test today, according to City Superintendent Luther Griffen.
The annual homecoming football game will be held Friday when Marion plays Hope. Queen candidates are Lavina Hoffman, Patsy Slusser and Sue Haizlip. One of these girls will be crowned queen at halftime ceremonies.
The dining room in the Elgin Hotel, long a favorite eating place, will reopen about Jan. 1, after being closed for several years. Mrs. Jess Coons will operate the dining room.
Members of Saint Luke Hospital Baby Alumni Association enjoyed their annual party Oct. 18 in the City Building. Entertainment was furnished by members of Wanda Thode’s kindergarten class who were born at St. Luke. The Baby Alumni Association was formed in October 1956.
Announcement has been received at Ramona from the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railway that they have decided to close their station there at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The recent Child Portrait Contest, sponsored by Broadstreet’s Studio Moderne has concluded. Entrants were placed in three groups according to age and are listed in first, second and third place. Winners in the A group are Terry Wayne Weigart, Jeffrey Lynn Cutberth, and Dale Geis. Group B winner is Kathy Kelsey. There is a tie between Kathy Burk and Cindy Ann Rector for second place with Robert Scot Hein taking third. First place in Group C went to Debbie Lee, second to Johnny Garrard, and third to Randy Pritz.
