It was Patsy Slusser, who was crowned, kissed and seated on the throne Friday as the Football Homecoming Queen of Marion High School for 1958. Her two equally charming attendants were Sue Haizlip and LaVina Hoffman. All three girls are MHS seniors.

Earl Magathan, Marion assistant fire chief, was in Lawrence last week to attend the annual Kansas Fire School on the University of Kansas campus. A very complete four-day program of fire fighting instruction was presented.

One hundred seats have been reserved for Marion countians at the huge Wichita University field house tonight, Thursday, for the Republican rally and to hear Vice President Richard Nixon speak.

About 150 attended the annual Past Masters’ Night banquet Tuesday night at the Masonic Temple. Roger Morse, present master of the lodge, presided and presented 25-year pins to John Herdt of Hillsboro and Forney Harris of Wichita. Charles McIntosh was to receive a 50-year pin, but was unable to be present as were William Kuhn and Dale Miller who were to receive 25-year awards.

Paul Keazer, utilities commissioner, and Luther Griffin, city engineer, went to Wichita Monday for a meeting of the Kansas League of Municipalities.

Among the award winners at the American Royal in Kansas City this year were cattle from the Angus herds of E.J. Tatge and son of Ramona.

Mrs. A.J. Sparks, who with her husband, managed the Elgin Hotel for many years, died Oct. 28 at the home of her son, William Immer and wife, in Kansas City.
