The City of Marion will follow through with its original agreement with USD 408 regarding the sharing of expenses of an indoor swimming pool currently owned and operated by the school district.

At Monday’s Marion City Council meeting, City Administrator David Mayfield reminded the council that the previous city commission had approved a 50/50 cost share with the school district of expenses associated with the swimming pool.

The city also is paying the school district $100,000 per year to assist the school district with the bond payment. When the bond is paid, the city will have an opportunity to acquire the swimming pool from the school district.

Mayfield explained if the swimming pool shows a profit, the city will share 50 percent of the profit with the school district.

The council agreed the letter of agreement was in order and approved it.

City gets state grant for street

The city is a recipient of $300,000 to resurface Main Street from Thorp Street to Lincoln. The funding is part of Kansas Department of Transportation’s KLINK (Connecting Link Grant) project for the state’s fiscal year of 2011 which begins in June 2010.

There will be a 25 percent match required of the city which will be included in the city’s budget next year.

Mayor Mary Olson asked if the project was patching and overlay. Mayfield said it was more than that. The street would be milled four inches deep and then overlaid.
