Margie Bernhardt asked several friends for a dinner at Coons’ Thursday evening in celebration of her 16th birthday. Covers were laid for Margie, Gaila Jost, Margaret McClain, Mary Lou Conyers, Elda Pankratz and Maxine Hinz.

The badge of Eagle Scout, highest award that can be given to a Boy Scout, was presented to three boys from Marion Troop 102 last week in an impressive Court of Honor. The boys are Michael Seaton, Junior Wiebe, and Earl Winter.

The names of hundreds of residents of Marion and vicinity were being placed on petitions to be sent to the chairman of the board of the J.C. Penney Company this week appealing for a reversal of the decision to close the Marion store.

Larry Gene Heidel, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Heidel asked several school friends in Monday after school to help him celebrate his birthday. The guests included John Schmersey, Lonny Stage, Charles Hedrick, Maurice Williams, Wayne King, Bobby May, Steve Knalson, Vernon Kelsey, Wally Bledsoe and Norman Bowers.
