Due to indiscriminate dumping and abuse of the City Dump facilities, causing damage to neighboring property, the City of Marion has found it necessary to hire a caretaker, and to instruct him to collect a 25-cent gate fee for all users of the dump.

Five Marion High School students have been selected to attend the annual Sunflower Girls State and Boys State gatherings at Lawrence this year. They are Carol Caselman, Melody Thompson, Don Westerhaus, Gene Schimpf, and Gilbert Johnson.

Wayne Schroeder of Hillsboro has purchased the Klassen Barber Shop in Marion and took over operation of the business on Tuesday. Verlan Klassen, former owner of the shop, was forced to sell due to a skin allergy on his hands.

The operetta “Rumpelstilskin” will be presented Friday by the sixth grade. Major parts will be played by Chuck McElwain, Anita Hett, Wayne Mott, Gwen Broz, Dean Ensey, Stanley Hett, Janel Klose, Rita Stika, Patsy Wood, Becky Lentz, Debbie Schrader, Roger Bennett, David Gooding, Terry Plenert, and Vince Tharp.

Nancy Klenda is the 1964 Cougar Sweetheart of Centre High School. Her attendants are Mary Agnes Bina, Gloria Lewerenz, Kris Schubert, and Mary Ann Svitak.
