Marion County Commission awarded the contract this week for air conditioning and heating the district courtroom. This work will complete the main portion of the complete renovation and redecorating of the courtroom that has long needed attention.

This week, M.E. “Nick” Nickel opened the sales room and office for his business, Nick’s Plumbing and Heating, at 422 E. Main in the building formerly used by the Farm Bureau Insurance.

Newsom Greenhouse will be the bus depot in Marion beginning March 8. They will accommodate both passenger and freight shipments and will also continue with the film delivery agency.

Marion “Mashers,” town basketball team, have been selected to meet the “Fabulous Magicians” in an exhibition game March 9 in Florence. The Magicians is an outstanding team, noted for ball handling and comic plays and is composed of players with outstanding abilities.

Ronald G. Kelsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Kelsey, has completed his basic naval training at San Diego and was voted most outstanding recruit of the company. He now is in the Philippines awaiting transfer to Japan.

Mary Evans of Marion was the only winner in this week’s Cash Days. She received $50. Lewie Griffith, Marion, missed $10; Pete Klein, Marion, missed $5; J.W. Fisher, Wichita, missed $10; and Ernest L. Scott, Marion, missed $5.

Several girls from Marion High School attended Kansas State Teachers College “Sports Day” Saturday at Emporia. Those going were Jeanne Keazer, Kay Applegate, Marsha Cowan, Barbara Hunt, Frances Hunt, Helen Jackson, Barbara Johnston, Madeline Thompson, Susan Yeagley, Roxanne Zerger, Kathy Weber, Debbie Finke, and Susan Marler.
