The Marion City Commission this week announced the appointment of Pete Schambron as one of the two city marshals. He replaces Lawrence Burnett who has held the post for several years. Leo Regier will assume the duties of day marshal and Schambron will take the night shift.
Miss Nora Zeller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dannie Zeller and a student at Phillips University placed second in the short story division of the annual Phillipian Festival. Sponsored each year, the festival is in recognition of new talent to the campus. Her story depicted many description from Marion, although the plot itself was fiction.
Jerry Seifert celebrated his 12th birthday Sunday evening with a dinner party at Kingfisher’s Inn. Guests included Dick Hoch, Bruce Wingerd, Oscar Davies, Robert Meisinger, Gerald Stage, Donald Winters, and David Montgomery.
Miss Suzanne Wheeler, whose marriage to Mr. Desmond Watt took place Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Church, Florence, was complimented at three affairs last week. Hostesses at a luncheon in Miss Wheeler’s honor last Thursday were Mrs. W.H. Carpenter, Mrs. W.R. Carpenter, and Miss Jeanne Carpenter. Mrs. J.E. Tibbetts and Mrs. Herbert Glidden hosted a buffet supper followed by bridge Friday evening. Dr. and Mrs. George J. Goodsheller received a limited number of friends Sunday afternoon to honor the bridal couple and the groom’s mother, Mrs. Ina Watt of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Alvin Propp recently was elected president of the Marion Chamber of Commerce for 1961. He succeeds Max Jackson.
