Serious flood conditions were narrowly avoided Wednesday in Marion County when nearly every stream was up to bank full. But, lack of moisture Wednesday night allowed the water to fall somewhat and the threat was reduced.

Marion Girl Scouts recently spent from July 9 to 15 at Camp Mary Dell at Abilene. It was especially interesting as there at the same time were international scouts from France, England, Holland, Japan, and other countries. Those who attended included Alda Ratts, Judy Coons, Linda Johnson, Carmen Siebert, Billie Herbert, Maymie Swehla, Jeanette Russell, Pat Dixon, Nancy Keazer, Connie Long, Kay Navrat, and LeNore Wheeler.

A Marion landmark, the Navy Hellcat F6F fighter airplane, located on the high school lawn, was moved away last Thursday, leaving the school grounds with a vacant, but more attractive, appearance.

Actual start of construction during the early fall months is the goal being set by architects and members of the board of the Marion Community Hospital Association.

Mary Margaret Hannaford and Sarabel Wolf planned and carried out a surprise party Tuesday evening to honor John Newcomer in celebration of his 16th birthday.
