A gang of Kansas City teenage youths were arrested Friday for stealing approximately $7,000 in merchandise early Sunday morning from Janzen’s Jewelry store in Hillsboro. Seven arrests were made. The teenage youths, with long criminal records, were taken by prompt and effective action by Hillsboro’s night marshal Leo Regier and Sheriff James Kline, plus cooperation by the KBI and the Kansas City police force. Part of the loot was recovered.
Newly initiated members of the Sub Deb club include Isla May Hiebert, Mary Hannaford, Dorothy Sandwell, Sarabel Wolf, Alice Ward, Juanita Ford, Pat Henry, Mary Ann Skibbe, Virginia Winters, Pat Heerey, and Carol Ginavin.
Word from the War Department that Pfc. Jack Herzet, 19, has been missing in action in Korea since July 22 was received by his mother, Mrs. Dixie Herzet, last Friday morning. Jack was a member of a regimental team of the 25th Division. Relatives and friends are anxiously awaiting further word.
Marion Country Club was the scene of a gay formal dance last Friday evening. Joe Gamache’s Stardusters orchestra furnished the music. The guest list included a large group of young people who will leave soon for school and other activities. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. E.V. Burkholder, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Merrill, Mr. and Mrs. S.W. Gound, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Brose, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Heath, and Mrs. Norma Hannaford.
