Beyond a doubt, Sunday was one of the finest days Kansas can produce. It was more like an October day than one in August. Heavy coats were comfortable and blankets were a must Saturday night.

Four two-legged businessmen don’t have any beef coming about their final positions after being judged as cattle by Carl Elling last week at the 4-H Club-businessmen’s picnic. The stunt was a mock demonstration of how to judge beef cattle. The men were J.F. Klassen, who was placed at the bottom of the list, Tony Knaak, Bud Pierce, and L.L. Hadsell, who took top honors. Elling said they all were a pretty rangy lot, and there wasn’t a good T-bone in the bunch.

Bratton’s Service Station will open this Saturday on the west edge of Marion. The new station is of concrete block structure and will feature Kanotex gasoline and Amaie motor oils. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bratton are the owners.

Ed R. Sandwell, popular young proprietor of the Sanitary Market, was named commander of James William Miesse American Legion Post 22 August 10. He succeeds Roger H. Morse. Other officers are vice commander, H.W. Sly; finance officer, Max Jackson; adjutant, Lonnie Tidwell; chaplain, Earl L. Kreuter; sergeant at arms, G.F. Beisel; service officer, Francis Roberts; historian, Alex H. Case.
