The annual check of drinking water at all rural schools and in cities where no city water system exists reveals a serious situation. Only 12 out of 55 schools have water fit to drink as the wells and cisterns now stand. Before these water supplies should be used for consumption they must be treated, then re-checked.

Sgt. 1st Class Robert Eugene Landes, 24-year-old Peabody soldier serving with the First Cavalry Division in Korea, was recently awarded the Silver Star, one of the highest decorations given by the Army as a result of duties performed while in combat in a war zone

Leon Hayen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hayen, will appear before the church’s quarterly conference Sept. 4 to answer disciplinary questions relative to entrance into the ministry.

Numerous complaints have come into the city office the past week or so about trash collections. Imer Matson, city sanitary disposal contractor, says that the continued rainy weather has made it almost impossible for him to complete his rounds. He will get to all residences just as soon as possible, he says.

Misses Donna Miesse, Nora Zeller, and Patsy Hett were guests of honor Friday night at a dinner at Kingfisher Inn. The girls leave this week for college. Other guests were Dorothy Adams, Norma Sly, Delores Razor, Virginia Wright, Joyce Keazer, and LaVere Metzler.
