Population figures recently released; by the Kansas State Board of Agriculture show that Marion County has 17,203 inhabitants. Population of the various towns is as follows: Marion 2,233; Hillsboro 2, 096; Peabody 1,397; Florence 1,055; Burns 304; Durham 240; Lehigh 236; Lincolnville 231; Tampa 226; Lost Springs 210; and Ramona 184.
Two Durham girls, Augusta Duke and Muriel Christiansen, are entered in the “Kansas Rodeo Queen” contest to be part of the Wichita Jaycee Rodeo, which opens Sept. 14 and continues through Sept. 17 at Lawrence Stadium.
Highlighting the 4-H Club public style review and recognition program Wednesday evening was the recognition of the outstanding 4-H exhibitors. Two of the five girls and all four of the boys were from the Sunshine Club. The outstanding girls were: Laura Jane Bredemeier and Evelyn Richmond from the Sunshine club and Betty Bartel and Shirley Suderman of the French Creek Valley club. The four outstanding boys were James Richmond, Richard Bredemeier, Ralph Richmond, and Marion Summervill.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Byram, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Bud Pierce and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Williams of Peabody attended the 75th anniversary celebration of the Continental Oil Company at Ponca City, Okla., on Tuesday.
