The date for the opening of the bids for the Marion Community Hospital is this Friday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. in the county court room.

Two old bridges spanning the former Cottonwood River channel in southwest part of Marion will soon be replaced with a surfaced earth fill. They are the old Jex Addition Bridge on west Main Street and the “Rogers” Bridge on south First Street.

Three MHS musical groups will appear Feb. 27 in the School Day Series at Kansas State College, Manhattan. The groups include the boys’ quartet, Charles Muse, Maurice Hollar, Dale Hobein, and Don Hayen; the girls’ sextet, Roberta Newsom, Edna Grimes, Janice Meisner, Mary Margaret Hannaford, Ethel Hiebert, and Georgene Tajchman; and the trombone quartet made up of Charles Muse, Maurice Hollar, Don Hayen, and John Childs.

The first group, started in 1948, of veterans enrolled in the vocational agriculture class at Marion High School, will complete their assignments at the end of the month, according to Don Davis, instructor. A new group is being organized and there will be 10 new enrollees who will start class work the first of March.

Floyd Yaussi, accompanied by Ted Heath, Dan Brodhead, and Gordon Wingerd, attended a basketball game at Salina last Friday evening.
