The city commission, after continued planning and study for several months, this week awarded to the Westinghouse Company, Wichita, the contract for a brightly lighted Main Street from one end of town to the other. The improvement will include improved fixtures, 79 poles, and all equipment with the total cost to be in the neighborhood of $10,000.

Lou Esther Wheeler celebrated her birthday Friday with a dinner party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David W. Wheeler. Invited guests included Sue Summervill, Karen Shull, Lucinda Hauser, Elizabeth Martinez, and Dickey Wayne Varenhorst.

The second annual “Phosphate Day” conducted in Marion last Saturday afternoon by Riddle quarries, Inc., attracted from between 650 and 700 people to Marion. Ben Plenert won a prize of a ton of rock phosphate and Jacob Schlotthauer was awarded five tons of lime.

Lt. and Mrs. Edwin M. Wheeler were involved in a motor car collision Sunday afternoon in Harrisburg, Pa. They were en route to his new station, the Fifth Infantry Center at Indiantown Gap, Pa., when the accident occurred. Mrs. Wheeler sustained a broken ankle, but was not hospitalized.

Pvt. Harold Conyers of Camp Carson, Colo., was home over the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Conyers and other relatives. He was a Saturday dinner guest at the John Williams home.
