Another new business improvement has been made in Marion and will reach its climax Saturday when the Thies Food Center is opened on the hill by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Thies.

Scottie George Gound has announced this week that he purchased the local Firestone store from Lloyd Tarrant on Thursday of last week, and has taken over management of the business. Chester McKibbin will remain on the selling force of the store.

When electricity came to the farm a lot of windmill towers had very little to do. One such tower has been moved to Marion and now serves as the base for the TV antenna in the backyard of the Albert Hiebert home on North Cedar Street. Since Kansas City is the nearest television broadcasting station, Hiebert says he now enjoys TV—at least 50% of the time.

The local Duckwall store, along with 54 other like stores, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the company. The chain is almost entirely in Kansas, with only seven stores outside of the state.

The Hillsboro community was saddened by the news of the death of Jake H. Groening, prominent automobile dealer and civic leader. He was for many years the Plymouth-DeSoto dealer in Hillsboro.

Leslie Broadstreet was named secretary of the Professional Photographers of Kansas this past week at the annual convention in Wichita. The six entries of the Moderne Studio each won awards among some 300 prints exhibited.
