Marion City Commission this week let a contract to W.F. McGinness and Son of Marion and Manhattan to re-roof the city building. The present roof has been on since the building was built and has been leaking in several places, it was stated.

An architect has been hired to draw up plans and specifications for remodeling the county home in preparation to re-opening it, probably in the fall.

Quite a number of new names have been added to the list of business houses making major repairs or redecoration since last reported. Ben Meier recently redecorated his café using a color scheme of jonquil yellow and coral rose with woodwork trimmed in springtime green. Dave Greenemeyer is putting an attractive new front on his building housing Lee’s Grill and Dave’s Tavern. A new glass-brick bordered door has added a good-looking modern touch to the front of Bob’s Grill and the Marion Equipment Company office and showrooms have been repainted.

Final winner of the VFW “Operation Goodwill,” who will enjoy a two-week all-expense trip through the Dominion of Canada this summer, is Miss Carole Schlehuber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schlehuber. Runners-up were Sarabel Wolf and John Newcomer.

Twenty-nine men gathered at the Chris Nelson home in Aulne last Friday and shingled their roof. Just for good measure, and because they had some extra time left, the men pitched in and helped their new preacher clean out his cistern. Both the new roof and the cistern now are ready for a good rain.
