Sunflower School District 14 has joined with Marion District. It is the second complete district to petition for voluntary annexation. Also voting to join District 1 is a three-quarter section of Quarry (108) which will be split four ways, according to a proposed plan. Part will go to Wren, part to Pilsen, part to Pleasant View and part to Marion.
Plans for the formal opening of the new American Legion memorial building are nearly complete, with the weekend of June 23-24 set for dedication ceremonies and celebration.
Dolores Srajer of Tampa, Mary Margaret Hannaford, and Claire Hyde left Sunday morning to attend Girls’ State at Lawrence. John Newcomer and Eugene Christensen are attending Boys’ State in Wichita this week.
Funeral services for Mrs. T.B. Matlock, one of the city’s outstanding women for many years, were held today, June 24. She was the daughter of Dr. T.T. and Laura Fox Davis Matlock. Her father was one of the town’s three pioneer physicians, coming to Marion following the Civil War.
Mr. and Mrs. Karl Gaston, owners of the Mayflower Theatre, Florence, for the past 13 years, are celebrating their anniversary next week by having a special showing of “Call Me Mister,” and awarding free orchids to the first 500 ladies attending the movie.
Marion has been picked as the site of the district semi-pro National Baseball Congress-sanctioned double elimination playoff. The first game, a double-header, will be Tuesday night.
