School lunch programs in the state are increasing at a steady rate according to County Superintendent J.H. Franzen. In Marion County there are now 1081 children participating in the programs at 12 schools.

Notices of unpaid balances on pledges to the Community Hospital fund are being mailed out this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kelsey announce the engagement of their daughter, Treva Mae, to Jack Ross Kerbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kerbs, Durham. The wedding date has not been set.

The Kansas State Society of Long Beach, California, will hold the 89th Kansas Admission Day picnic Jan. 29. The reunion will be an all-day affair.

The new car purchased for use by the city marshal by the commission recently should be here this weekend, according to the city clerk. Appropriate insignia will be stenciled on the car.

The recent “Toys for Tots” drive conducted by the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary totaled over 400 toys of all kinds. They were packed into three large crates this week and sent off to be loaded onto a ship and sent to children in European countries.
