Announcement is made this week of a change in ownership of Hannaford and Gardner, Marion County’s only abstracting firm. Mrs. Norma Hannaford has bought out the Gardner interest of the firm held by Ethel Garner Dale and Mrs. Thomas Howard.

Corporal Merlin Helbach of Ramona, 23rd Infantry, 2nd Infantry Division, was killed in action October 10, in the bitter campaign for possession of “Heartbreak Ridge.”

J.H. Franzen, county superintendent, this week announced the sale of the schoolhouse and equipment at Brown School District No. 10 at 10 a.m. Dec. 4. At 1 p.m. the same day, the schoolhouse equipment belonging to District 6 will be sold by auction at the Dobbs Schoolhouse, 5 miles northwest of Marion.

Three Marion boys have received their basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. They are Dale Ecker, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Ecker, Charles R. Moulton, son of Mr. and Mrs.C.R. Mouton, and Norman Bredemeier, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Highsmith.

The Cecil Post barn was the scene of a gala Halloween party Oct. 29 for Sub Deb Club members and their dates. Thirty youth were present for the fun evening. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Rosse Case and Mr. and Mrs. Scottie George Gound.

Universal-International’s new comedy “Bedtime for Bonzo” starts this Saturday at the Kaw Theatre. Bonzo, a 5-year-old acting chimp, now becomes a laugh threat to the popularity gained by Francis, the talking Army mule, and Harvey, the invisible rabbit.
