“Shooting Stars,” a nine-act variety comedy is being presented tonight and tomorrow at Marion City Auditorium by local participants. Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, proceeds from the entertainment will go to the benefit of Rock Springs Ranch.

A number of delegations from towns along the Florence-Ellinwood branch line appeared at a McPherson hearing Friday afternoon to protest the Santa Fe’s application to discontinue the “Doodlebug.”

“Bulletin Bluffs, a skit composed and directed by Donna Hobein of Marion, was awarded first place at the Rock Chalk Revue held March 24 and 25 at the University of Kansas. Pat Harris, also of Marion, planned the costumes. She and Donna are members of Delta Gamma sorority at KU.

Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Meier Jr. announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Ella Ruth, to Jack Swain, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.C. Swain. The wedding date has been set for May 23.

The birthday of Beverly Bredemeier was celebrated Saturday afternoon at a party given by her mother, Mrs. Floyd Bredemeier. Guests present were schoolmates Donna Kelsey, Patsy Slusser, Sue Summervill, Margie Winter, Louise Ford, Wanda Johnston, Karon Sue Highsmith, Shirley Hedrick, Marie Blankley, Coleen Allen, Sharon Propp, Clydene Edmonds, and Sue Haizlip, and Boyd Poteet, Mickey Summervill, and Beverly’s sister, Roberta Kay Bredemeier.
