According to final figures taken from county assessors’ reports, Marion County lost 25 residents during the past year, coming down from 17,071 in 1951 to 17,046 this year. Marion has a population of 2,309, a gain of 56 from last year’s total of 2, 253.

Harry Nelson has been in Kansas City for the past several weeks assisting in a mattress factory there. He has returned to Marion and is again operating his plant on South Fourth St.

Mary Melton celebrated her seventh birthday with a party last Thursday that included a ride on the Doodle Bug to Florence where a picnic was enjoyed in the park. Guests were Helen and Charlotte Langley, Karen Schroeder, Betty Jean Tipton, Helen Olsen, Cheri Wolgast, Kay Amick, Chrissie Herbert, Mary Sue Reh, and Jean Morse.

Josephine Nikkel, Ethel Gillig, and Pauline Edmunds enjoyed a free airplane ride in a new Cessna 170 ‘Businessliner” Friday afternoon, courtesy of Yingling Aircraft, Wichita. Misses Nikkel and Gillig won the ride as a prize at the Kiwanis home talent play last winter. Since the plane was four place, Mrs. Edmunds also went along on the ride.

The 45 MHS seniors and their sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Erle Volkland, left Wednesday a.m. on an end-of-school trip to the Ozarks. They will headquarter at Rockaway Beach on Lake Taneycomo near Branson, Mo.
