There is limited number of tickets for the “Eisenhower Special” train that will go to Abilene and return June 4. The price for the round trip, which includes a box lunch, is $3.50.

Spring is not just around the corner, but June is. Five marriage licenses were issued this past week. They are to the following: Albert Klose, Marion, and Jeraldine Hess, Peabody; Bill Markham, Marion, and Geraldine Yadon, Peabody; Allen Pankratz and Dorothy Ann Funk, both of Hillsboro; James W. Hett and Carol Ann Oblander, both of Marion; and Godfrey Keller and Jessie Yotter, both of Newton.

Mrs. H.L. McDaris was the honoree at a layette shower Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Rosse Case. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Elmer Ottensmeier, Mrs. Herb Meier, and Miss Jean Hagans of Manhattan.

A 15th anniversary dance will be held at Starlite Ballroom in Pilsen June 4. Music will be by the “Blue Aces.”

School District No. 22, three miles east, two south, and two and one-quarter east of Marion will have a sale at 2 p.m. June 14. Selling will be one acre of land, one frame schoolhouse, 20x30, one coal shed, and two outside toilets.

Several awards have been made to Marion High School seniors during the past week. Sarabel Wolf, valedictorian, was awarded a one-year subscription to Reader’s Digest and a scholarship to Cottey Girls College, Nevada, Mo. Mary Margaret Hannaford was awarded the Balfour award and Jessie Jewett received the Curlie-Q scholarship at Emporia State College.
