Diana Herbert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Herbert of Marion, left Tuesday evening from Kansas City on a trip to Canada with 24 other Kansas students. The trip is sponsored by the Kansas Veterans of Foreign Wars as a project termed “Operation Goodwill.”

Gary Newlon, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Newlon, was taken to St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Wednesday afternoon with an illness diagnosed as polio.

Betty Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Swede Williams, has received a coveted Fulbright Scholarship which entitles her to a year’s study abroad. She leaves on the Dutch liner, Rheindam, from New York Aug. 21 with 24 other exchange students, all of whom will study next year at Amsterdam University

A series of misfortunes which have befallen Mrs. Lee Bowers were added to last Thursday night when a bolt of lightning, out of an almost clear sky, killed four head of her cattle, all uninsured

Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Beaman recently took possession of their new suburban farm home at the east edge of Marion. They expect to move into the house within a few days. Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Batthauer, former owners, have returned to Indiana.

Marion Boy Scouts plan to go to Wichita Friday morning to attend the opening games of the National Semi-Pro baseball tournament.
