Marion schools opened Tuesday with a total enrollment of 530 pupils. The largest class in the system is the freshmen class with an enrollment of 60. There is a total 231 in the Hill School, which includes 51 in two kindergarten sections and the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. There are 114 in the first five grades at Bown-Corby Grade School and 185 in Marion High School.

No definite date has yet been set for the formal opening and open house of the new Marion Community Hospital, which will be known as St. Luke Hospital, according to Mother Superior Ventura who has been in charge of the initial preparations.

It was 55 years ago this fall that Mrs. Steven Bown invited a few friends to her home and organized a social club. The Thimble Club was taken for the name of the organization. Just one charter member, Mrs. Rosse Case, still resides in Marion.

Mrs. Sylvester Vinduska entertained Aug. 31 honoring her daughter Lisa’s seventh birthday. Guests present were Rosalie Stika. Karen Dvorak, Mary Melton, Jan Rathert, Judy Svitak, Regina and Marilyn Steiner, Johnsie and Keith Just, Ronnie Stika, Irene Hajek, Sharon and Mary Jo Klenda, and Diana Vinduska.

Mr. and Mrs. August Hett Jr. are the parents of a baby girl born Aug. 30 at the Marion Hospital. They have named her Anita Faye.
