James E. Broadwater, court reporter for the Marion County District Court for many years, was killed early this morning, Thursday, and Judge Jas. P. Coleman seriously injured in a one-car automobile wreck south of Junction City. The two men were on their way to Marion for opening day of regular September Motion Day in court.

John E. Sloup has been named as Marion County’s new extension agent, according to Frank Hagans of Kansas State College. Sloup will replace Allan Risinger, who has accepted a position with the Peabody Milling Company.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Klenda and Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Konarik returned Wednesday from Lisle, Ill., where they took their sons, Martin Klenda Jr. and Alfred Konarik to attend high school at St. Procopius School. Mr. Klenda says it almost got too tiresome driving between the walls of tall corn in Illinois.

Karen Schroeder was eight years old Sunday and the day was celebrated with a family dinner at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Schroeder. Karen received a new bicycle from her parents as a birthday gift.

Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Wight are expected home Sunday from a 15-day guided tour through the northwest, up the Pacific coast to Banff, Lake Louise and other spots in Canada.

Mrs. Harry Kline entertained Sarabel Wolf, Mary Hannaford, Charles Propp, and Bob Kline for dinner Tuesday evening.
